Some people have reported they saw they were eligible for the promotion from a banner ad on the Amazon app.
I’d seen that I was eligible for the special promo pricing from a banner announcing the smart plug promotion when I logged onto Amazon’s website on my computer. I don’t know if having the Alexa app installed on my phone and an Amazon Echo device on my account helped.

Amazon Smart Plug Alternative
Interested in buying a smart plug but the deal is not available right now?
Consider the Kasa Smart Plug 4-pack that is on sale for $22.99. That comes out to $5.75 each.
The Kasa plugs also have tens of thousands of positive reviews. These plugs are compatible with Google Home in addition to Amazon Alexa.
One useful feature in the current generation of Kasa plugs not available on the Amazon version is the ability to monitor energy usage.
Why Get an Amazon Smart Plug?
I’ve never thought about needing a smart plug until I picked up one for a few dollars. Their uses are practically endless.
Some of us may remember the old commercials for The Clapper where you can clap your hands to turn on and off your lights and television. Smart plugs are the modern version of that product. Instead of clapping, you can use your voice to control your devices by saying “Alexa, turn on the living room light”.
Devices you can plug into your smart plug besides lights and TVs include fans, coffee makers, holiday lights, humidifiers or dehumidifiers, space heaters, speakers, air fresheners, or chargers for phones, tablets, cameras, and shavers to prevent overcharging the batteries.
Besides using your voice, you can control your devices from anywhere in the world with internet connectivity. If you forget to turn off the iron before leaving town, you can open the Alexa app from anywhere to check whether the iron is on or off and turn it off.
You can also create routines for the smart plug to automatically turn on and off devices at set times or when certain events occur, such as when you leave or return home.
Closing $ense
The Amazon Smart Plug was previously on sale for as little as 99 cents. I paid $1.99 and I think it was a great purchase. It was cheaper than a basic plug-in mechanical timer for an electric outlet and has a lot more functionality.
I bought my smart plug at the end of August and it was perfect timing since the days were starting to get shorter. I use my Amazon Smart Plug to turn on a light on weekday evenings to make it appear that someone is home. I’m able to set specific days and times so the light only turns on when needed. Once I get home, I simply tell Alexa to turn the light off.
I don’t think I would have paid the $24.99 regular price for one plug if I hadn’t received a promo code for the Amazon Smart Plug. That price is a bit too much. You can get a better deal buying a 4-pack of the Kasa Smart Plugs by TP-Link.
